There is something that I’ve been missing in my life A certain someone to change my wrongs into rights I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight Tonight Careful focus, affection studies her face Position hopeless, no way to paint the past away I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight Tonight Real feelings from faraway places Love traveled away from the faces we once knew I feel us wanting each other Memories of you and no other are coming true Trusting instincts, I feel my timing is right With passion flaming the lonely darkness to light I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight I’m gonna tell her tonight Tonight Tell Her Tonite! © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

Shy Girls 03:09
She glances at the other boys with notions in her head But all it takes is a look from her to put me on the edge I’m never the hero, she’ll never be bold But I want to be with her (some day) My efforts are fragile, her eyes are so cold I’ll never be near her (no way) But shy guys smile at shy girls every once in a while Shy guys smile at shy girls. Exercising all my will, invention in my schemes Of fantasies across the room to visions in my dreams The look of enchantment that I’ll never find I’ll change her direction (someday) Protection my passion takes all my time Avoiding detection (no way) But shy guys smile at shy girls every once in a while Shy guys smile at shy girls. BRIDGE: She makes me feel weird – Shy Girls I want to whisper in her ear – Shy Girls She’s so fine – Shy Girls I think about her all the time – Shy Girls She’s messing with my mind! She glances at the other boys with notions in her head But all it takes is a look from her to put me on the edge I’m never the hero, she’ll never be bold But I want to be with her (some day) My efforts are fragile, her eyes are so cold (no way) But shy guys smile at shy girls every once in a while Shy guys smile at shy girls. © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

I used to deal with my one-way reflection of you You tried to put up a wall that I couldn’t see through But not it’s gone and nothing’s wrong. Little By Little it keeps getting better. I still remember the times you bothered me You were always tied down and I had to be free You walked away. That made my day. Little By Little it keeps getting better. Bridge Your image dancing away Too many visions of other days But you won’t stop it anyway You can't stop yourself! I hung up on your calls right from the start Severing connections in the dark And now it’s true. No more me and you. Little By Little it keeps getting better. © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

I’m reaching in to pull them out The feelings that I keep I watch as the bloody tide runs deep Choosing words, familiar verbs Emotion seems to part You control the matters of the heart But when the walls of poison tumble down I’ll be standing on the ground Alone you’ll be inside your room Hiding from your day of doom Cut the throat that sings the notes But you won’t silence me Sell your arms and doomsday charms But keep the money clean ‘Cause when … (Chorus) Doubting Thomases, broken promises It makes no difference to your creed Lying to my face, words you can’t erase The end will justify the means (lead) You can give a bleak response to pictures you conceive Anything is effortless as long as you believe Choosing words, familiar verbs Emotion seems to part You control the matters of the heart ‘Cause when … (Chorus) © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

You paint a life that’s tossed and turned Amusing me with what you will never learn There’s nothing we can talk about When we try we only have it out You live in a different world, it’s not like mine, like mine Your touch is the hurting kind, it’s not like mine, mine We fight the battle everyday The nasty echoes of your changing ways I watch you shake your fist at me It gives my mind analogy You live in a different world, it’s not like mine, like mine Your touch is the hurting kind, it’s not like mine, mine I know why you left me tonight Unguarded moments slipped into light Am I right? I watch your shadow pierce the haze Prepared to strike upon your naked prey You run to shield yourself from harm But you’ve turned in a false alarm You live in a different world, it’s not like mine, like mine Your touch is the hurting kind, it’s not like mine, mine © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

She was such an easy subject to talk about Her mind was always playing tricks on me Her critical tongue flew out in all directions Like a spider dancing on a web of mystery But all this work and no play makes her a very dull girl Painting pictures, licking whiskers in her own small world She could cast her eyes like a fuel that feeds a fire With a radar touch that had its fix on me She could show her heart in a way of passion desire Saying all those things I never could believe But all this work and no play makes her a very dull girl Painting pictures, licking whiskers in her own small world How do you know what’s going on anymore? What will it take for you to even the score? She was such an easy subject to talk about Her mind was always playing tricks on me Her critical tongue flew out in all directions Like a spider dancing on a web of mystery But all this work and no play makes her a very dull girl Painting pictures licking whiskers in her own small world But all this work and no play makes her, no play makes her a very dull girl Painting pictures, licking whiskers in her own small world © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

Turn Away 03:43
You’re on the trail again A devoted fan of things absurd There’s no way you can win You’re a moving target for cloudy words And when you undertake so much So many people feel your touch Turn away. You face life with a glance Never looking where you’re going to And everything’s a chance There’s no other way of getting through The point of reason gests behind Affecting changes in your mind Turn away. No more friendly voices No pretty music to hear Taking my life out of context A sermon for no one to hear You’re sliding towards the end Every indication it’s getting worse There’s no way to pretend You’re a million miles from planet Earth From playing instincts as your means To waking up in lonely dreams Turn away. © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

A man of the modern age Is clenching his fists in rage He lives his life in a cage The thoughts that belong to me Reflect my philosophy To trust in things that I believe But I, I can’t hurt for the world anymore No I, I can’t bleed for the pain The concepts that I define Of life in these hard-pressed times Makes all the world a birthday cake You’re putting yourself on trial And I never see you smile You feel the trap, there’s no escape But I, I can’t hurt for the world anymore No I, I can’t bleed for the pain So, move to one side now, clear the way now Move to one side now, clear the way now, Move to one side now, clear the way now Move to one side now, clear the way now I’ll say it in black and white And say to myself at night Is anybody really listening? But I, I can’t hurt for the world anymore No I, I can’t bleed for the pain So, move to one side now, clear the way now Move to one side now, clear the way now … © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

Looking at your face increasing the life load Trying to find a way of leaving the hard road Timeless little pictures that burn within your mind Sometimes it takes a lot to keep it together There can be no more excuses, don’t let the time go If it makes you feel so useless, just let the wind blow Trying to keep a handle on what you think is real Sometimes it takes a lot to keep it together Sometimes it takes a lot to keep it together Secret admissions, no understanding. Our inhibitions have trouble dancing. Investigations found deep inside you. No reservation, don’t look behind you. Hold on to your dreams, there’s nothing better If it’s harder than it seems, don’t mind the weather Keep it in perspective and what you seek you’ll reap Sometimes it takes a lot to keep it together Sometimes it takes a lot to keep it together © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

One By One 03:08
We have to take our chances daily to survive There are no supermen among us in this life We must keep moving forward To find our way onward One By One Sometimes we break the rules that measure everyone But as we see ourselves then so do we become Concealing desperation Emotional replacement One By One I see myself, you see yourself, you and I People as we try to live our lives I see my face, you see your face, you and I Reaching for the answers to survive We have to try to leave our emptiness behind We can be strong with good intentions in our minds And when my life gets caught up I think of all of us One By One © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

They will say anything to you Even when they know that it’s not true They will try to trick your mind Leaving reason far behind Creepy people hang you up Creepy people can’t get enough Creepy people wanna make you cuss Creepy people what’s the fuss? Always putting you down (down, down) They just love to spin around They will want to make you see The stupid things that they believe Creepy people hang you up Creepy people can’t get enough Creepy people wanna make you cuss Creepy people what’s the fuss? Refrain – Creepy people - Intro They will say anything to you Even when they know that it’s not true They will try to trick your mind Leaving reason far behind Creepy people hang you up Creepy people can’t get enough Creepy people wanna make you cuss Creepy people what’s the fuss? Refrain – Creepy people Creepy people watching you Creepy people don’t ever move Creepy people up in your face Creepy people all over the place Creepy people © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

Houdini 04:36
You waltzed into this century with your act as tight as it could be Just waiting for someone to share the plans you’d made You met the sweetheart of your life, she married you, became your wife Oh, Harry! You knew you both were on your way. Oh, Harry! You could do anything! They said that you were an illusionist but all the while you confused us You just took us on a trip of your own And now you’ve left us thinking all alone You played the towns where no one cared But still the watched with wonderous stares Plain magic would never have left them so amazed A brave young man with daring feats, you had them lined up on the streets Oh, Harry! You knew you’d really made the grade. So you traveled on throughout land, the legend spreading ever grand A hero the people could call their very own The papers said your goals were high but even when your hands were tied Oh, Harry! You showed them you weren’t a novice after all. Oh, Harry! You could do anything! They said that you were an illusionist but all the while you confused us You just took us on a trip of your own And now you’ve left us thinking all alone The years would go and they’d all tried to reach you Harry But your words were left unfound But then one night came the message so clear it said “Believe, Bessie! Believe!” Though times you gave us are behind When magic strikes you’re on our minds Those memories you gave us will always make us smile You entertained tried and true and still we all remember you Oh, Harry! You knew your dreams could never die. Oh, Harry! You could do anything! They said that you were an illusionist but all the while you confused us You just took us on a trip of your own And now you’ve left us thinking all alone © Bruce Moody/ASCAP

about

Shaken Not Stirred Records is proud to announce Bruce Moody’s new album PopCycle!

PopCycle contains 12 songs, plus a previously unreleased bonus track from 1980!

Bruce describes the album this way: “At the beginning of the Covid pandemic, I completely re-built my home studio. I’d been listening to a bunch of my old reel-to-reel tapes, and I picked some songs and song ideas that I thought would be fun to work with in my new studio.”

Why PopCycle? “The twelve pop songs I chose were born in the 1980’s, so in a way, they were being recycled so I thought “PopCycle”!
Some were songs that I’d written for my bands Walkee Talkee and Private Numbers at the time and some were song ideas that had never been fully realized at the time. So, I spent some time working with them and reimagining all of the parts into more polished arrangements. I’m really happy with the results!”

about

Bruce Moody Fort Mill, South Carolina

Others have called it Power Pop Plus! To me, they're just songs. I love interesting themes & melodies, along with lyrics that tell good stories. I also like altering conventional sounding instruments to create something that sounds completely different; like playing a guitar line and then doubling that line note for note with a melodica, or even a kazoo! Fun and interesting harmonies are a must! ... more
